Is it possible to make this document read only or SWX file read only?
when you open the design journal in Word, go to the 'File' and in the Info tab there is a 'Protect Document' button. Your best bet is likely in there.
this will obviously be dependant on your version of word. But some form of file protection will be likely in any case.
Wow. I had no idea that the Design Binder existed at all. Pretty cool.
In any case - The Solidworks help file says that the Design Journal Word file is embedded into the SW file - This may or may not be true - I don't know. But I did a test and put some notes into the DJ of one of my parts, and I could see no new MS Word file created in the Explorer file listing so perhaps the file is indeed embedded. If this is the case I don't see why we would need it to be read only or read only by SW or whatever. But I'm sure you have you're reasons for asking...

Suppose I have particular web address references for a particular SWX file. To prevent unwittingly those address getting altered.
In case if it is a SWX file suppose I do many changes to original part file but later I found it is not suitable, in such case if there is read only I can reverse the changes. I know there is a Reload command to reverse but if there is a read only feature as well it is more useful.
I am not aware of being able to make the design journal read only but I not longer use it since SW screwed it up 10 or so years ago and I have never re-investigated if it was fixed.
If you are not using PDM then you can set the file to read only in File Explorer. Another option is to set your backup copies to more than one so they you can back track your saves
I tried setting the journal template doc to be modified only by password, which works outside of SW, but once it's embedded into SW, this behavior doesn't apply and I couldn't set this within the embedded journal.
Sorry, no help.
Thanks. Better late than never
