Am I crazy for thinking that there used to be a 'save' command in the menu when right-clicking a component in an assembly tree?
I found the setting that turns this option on. Tools>Options>Collaboration. Check 'Enable Multi-user environment' and 'add shortcut menu items for multi-user environment'.
Now when you RMB click on an item in an assembly, there is a save option available. This will save the selected component, not the assembly you are working in
Note: if you are working in PDM (not Workgroup) then a few options will be added to your right click menus (in the picture above: Get Write Access/Make Read-Only) and File menus that won't work. You can ignore them and use the PDM tools for those functions
I wouldn't call you crazy, but I don't remember that.
You can call me crazy if you'd like, I don't mind
Did you possibly have it as a "Mouse Gestures"?
But I'm sure it can be added to the right mouse click anyway...
Adding the save command to the pop-up menu just saves the assembly. I was hoping it would save the selected component

When you save the assembly it will save the Parts. I don't know of any way to save just a Part from the Assembly.
There is a Save Selection.
