Using the same symbol as both the plug and receptacle of a connector?

I have a large machine with multiple harnesses to design. I already have a top level drawing and would like to break it out into harnesses by adding symbols to act as the connection between two connectors.

See image below for ideal setup.

From here, I'd like to assign one side of the connector to one harness, and the other to another. The issue comes up when I want to make a harness drawing in solidworks. I don't think I can assign the symbol to both harnesses let alone two different manufacturer parts for the plug and receptacle.

Is there a way to make this work? Should I be considering a different work flow? What do you do to show an potential passing though a connector to generate separate harnesses?

Thanks for any help!
