If we do all our sending files down the workflows with conditions of the workflows, what other benefits are there of setting up categories for different type of documents in PDM.
I use categories when I have a condition which is shared by multiple workflows. Mostly for file path conditions, which are used in multiple workflows. I define this condition in a category so I don't have to keep adding the same condition in multiple workflows. Less typing = saving time
For sending files into different branches of workflows automatically.
I have a "CAD non-SW" category that we use to push purchased parts/dumb solids into a state that doesn't have any other transitions. That way there's no worrying about other conditions to push those files out of the initial state.
It's also an easy way to have files go into completely different workflows. Once again, less "or" statements to deal with to sort the files into appropriate workflows/states.
