I'm currently installing SOLIDWORKS 2020 and the server and client are not compatible anymore.
This is the information I get:
From what I can see in the APP list in Windows SOLIDWORKS PDM 2020 SP0 Server has been installed. That's weird?
PDM version needs to be the same as SolidWorks version.
PDM should be upgraded before upgrading SolidWorks.
With upgrading the client, you also have to upgrade the Vault. The Vault has two upgrades that are necessary. One for the filestore and one for the database.
So to be clear when upgrading PDM, you need to upgrade the Database, FileStore, and the Client.
To clarify Jeff Wygum's statement:
SolidWorks PDM Pro will allow the current version and 2 previous versions.
so PDM Pro at version 2020, will support SolidWorks 2020, 2019, and 2018
Ken - Thanks for the clarification.
Thanks for claryfying.
So when using the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager. What should be ticked? I did not find any tree structure beneath the PDM product. If I recall there were just PDM. I have rolled back my computer now. I'm going to try and do it all over again in a more controlled way :-) Installing PDM first, but is there anything I need to consider when doing that using the installation manager?
It sounds like you are talking about just your desktop computer (client). You'll need to do the server side installs first as pointed out by Ken. Once that is done, all you'll need on your client side are the correct SW version and the new PDM client.
Administration Guides | SOLIDWORKS
Start with the Admin guides. If I remember correctly when you run the Installation Manager on the server(s) for the database and filestore, the Installation Manager will give you the installation option for the server components.
Please make sure you have backups of everything before moving ahead and test those backups as well. If you have the opportunity to spin up some virtual servers for testing, I would do that first. It's way better to screw up your test servers than the production server.
This is only for a laptop that is used for demo purposes. I have both the client and server installed on the same machine.
I haven't moved forward yet, but will try and install everything in the correct order. Let's hope it works out.
