Just a heads up, this has been know about since beta SPR 1150292.
Some imported legacy data geometry disappears when saved then re opened 2020.
I'm very surprised that this issue has made it to the official release.
Well that sounds like a bit of a catastrophe. Just graphically missing or is the body actually missing from the model? Any pattern to what data gets damaged?
Maybe this is the same issue as the missing mesh display / results display in simulation? With this problem it is solved when you disable the 'performance pipeline'.
With performance pipeline enabled in SW2020 there is no mesh display
This was my question....
If you look up that SPR in the knowledge base, it is listed as "Closed (File Repaired)" in 2020 SP0. That either means:
So, are you seeing this on multiple files or just the original file submitted with the SPR? Even if it is happening on multiple files, perhaps each of them needs to be repaired to fix the problem.
I'd suggest contacting your reseller to get to the bottom of it.
I have spoken to my VAR, I have sent files to them and SW.
I have a library of downloaded items from SMC pneumatics that all have the same issue.
I checked the Solidworks file format but they are just a dumb model.
2020 will open them fine, you can Ctrl Q and all is still ok, but when reopen the saved file is empty.
I have just downloaded the attached file from SMC, it has the issue.
What happens of you open/save a version that was first saved in 2019?
I'm still on 2018 SP5 (which has been good) I had issues with 2019.
I have the same issue opening the file after saving in 2018.
I was really hoping 2020 would be OK.
I'm working on a very large project and the new detailing mode would be more than useful.
Thanks for raising this problem. SPR 1150292 was resolved by repairing the file and returning it to the customer. Since that time, we have identified that this problem is not file specific, although it is also not generic to all imported files. We believe this may be caused by incorrect data formatting of specific geometry types when these translated files were created.
In SW2020, the underlying "body check" operation has become more stringent and certain files which were allowed to load in SW2019 are now failing this more-stringent body check. These files were allowed to load in earlier versions of SOLIDWORKS even though the body had bad data. However, in all versions of SolidWorks, if bad data structures or invalid geometry exists, it can lead to more serious geometry corruptions or crashes down the road as you perform modelling operations with the imported geometry.
We are actively working on a solution that ideally can be delivered as a hotfix as soon as possible.
I would encourage anyone who has a file that fails in this manner in SW2020 sp0 to send it to their VAR and reference SPR 1150663. This will give us additional cases to check to be sure our solution works for each specific file.
I will post back as soon as I can give you a timeframe on any possible fix.
Thanks again for your input,
Note - I've added your "KQ2H01_M5A" part to the bug for testing with our fix.
Thank you for reply.
Just received this from my VAR
Below please find important information regarding SOLIDWORKS 2020 SP 0.
SolidWorks 2020 SP 0.1
This release fixes a critical issue, SPR 1150663 where imported bodies with specific inconsistent geometry faults are deleted on Save
Problem Description and Impact
SolidWorks 2019 and earlier Parts can have imported bodies with undetected inconsistent geometry faults. The more exhaustive checking for this case in SolidWorks 2020 SP0 caused these bodies to be deleted when the Part is Saved in 2020 SP0.
What is Not Affected
Who should update from 2020 SP0 to 2020 SP 0.1
All customers who make extensive use of imported parts from other applications.
Things like this is exactly the reason I only upgrade once SP5.0 is released. Currently on 2018 SP5.0 and will probably move to 2019 SP5.0 soon. Not touching anything less than SP5.0, don't need the headache. The first releases have major bugs every year.
Solidworks 2019 SP5 has bugs, and we are currently waiting for a hot fix for this. You may want to hold off for a bit.
I'm in no rush quite honestly. There's nothing in 2019 or 2020 for that matter that has me excited.

I second this. For me, SW hasn't been the same since I went to 2019. (Yes, I know I'm beating a dead horse, but I have to do something while "solidworks is busy.")
Looks like SP0.1 (not seen that before!) released on 15th November specifically to address this issue. See below link.

I am in the process of rolling back all my affected items ready to re-save using this newest release in the hope that everything that disappeared will return!

I wouldn't get your hopes up. See this portion of what Mark Bradford wrote above:
For Parts previously Saved in 2020 SP0 with these undetected imported body geometry errors, the bodies are deleted and cannot be recovered. You must revert to a backup copy of the file(s) and Open/Save in SW 2020 SP 0.1
Worked for me! I had originally updated the entire library from 2019 SP5 using 2020 SP0. Thankfully this error only affected twenty or so parts....
My method was to install 2020 SP0.1 then rollback the affected items (one at a time) to the previous version using PDM file explorer (Right hand click the part file and select 'history'). This took them back to when the parts were still in the 2019 format.
Opened, then saved & checked in. All is good again
Thanks for sharing your process. That's going to be very helpful.
