Swing target physics

I want to design an air rifle swing target. The modelling is no problem, but I'd like some design advice.


I want to make this type, where the targets flip up, then you shoot the top one to automatically reset. I'd like to verify the physics prior to making.


My hunch is that SW simulation is not going to handle an air rifle pellet impact well, as the velocity is so high the resolution would need to be very high to prevent the pellet from just passing through the target.


I need to make sure that:

  1. The impact will be sufficient to knock the target into the top position
  2. The target will not bounce back down into the lower position
  3. The impact on the reset target will be sufficient to knock the other targets down


Pellet velocity:   750 fps = 229 m/s

Pellet mass:      5g


If anyone knows about air rifles (i don't) feel free to comment on target design, or the stats I'm using (just aiming for something average)
