Which GPU would be more suitable for SW Composer. A quadro rtx 4000 or an RTX 2080?
We find better success with the NVIDIA Quadro line of GPUs over the GeForce line in Composer. You can find a list of certified machines and graphics card drivers here... SOLIDWORKS Hardware Certification
Which particular Quadro do you user yourself if you don't mind me asking.
Here are some of my machine specs, I am running SOLIDWORKS and Composer 2019...
Microsoft Windows 10 ProDell Precision Tower 5810Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-1607 v3 @ 3.10GHz, 3100 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)32.0 GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro K2200Version 188.8.131.521
Definately i would advise go Quadro for certified drivers from SOLIDWORKS and support.
if you are looking at Desktops the minimum i would go with is the Quadro P1000 4GB , there is also the P2200 5GB on the mid range which ii have found to be generally more than sufficient for most Composer users. Those cards are the latest generation low-mid range Quadros available.
I'm not sure if there is any benefit of the high end cards for Composer like the RTX 4000, but it is one generation newer as NVIDIA have only released high end cards thusfar from their latest generation, SOLIDWORKS only just started taking proper advantage of these high end cards.
Ultimately it won't hurt to go with the RTX 4000 and it will likely be supported longer. however even for SOLIDWORKS users we typically recommend the high end cards like the RTX 4000 to those dealing with complex datasets and VIsualize rendering users.
I'm looking at the RTX 4000 as I'd like to future proof it and have VR. I do a little but of rendering also so it will be beneficial. Here's the spec I'm looking at:
