I have a user that has gone through (3) computers in the time they've been with the firm. While doing some maintenance of the server I noticed a bunch of files checked out to them. By looking at the "Checked Out In" column I could see that they were on different computers! Two of them are no longer in service. So those files are GONE.
What's the best way to handle this?
If the files cannot be recovered, login as ADMIN and UNDO checkout the files.
I've logged in as a Admin, found the file in question, right clicked on it and then selected "Undo Checkout".
I've tried that and the status does not change
Edit to add, Sorry, I forgot had to check the correct box for this to work! It's good now
If the files were in their initial state, just delete them. If they are in any version other than 1, they should be able to go through "Undo Check Out".
Let admin try and make a copy of the file and then check it in.
Another way to find the specific file, if it was ever checked in is to look at the SQL database and the Document ID. With this information you can go through the Archive Folders and locate the specific file and use that to check it in into the vault again.
User can do undo checkout himself for those files also(at least sw 2017 pdm sp5). No matter in which computer it's checked out as long as it's checked out by user.
