Why does SolidWorks 2019 save an "ascii" file every time I hit save? I have recently converted a lot of .STP files and created alot of Sheet Metal parts but this happens on new parts created also.
That is STL file. Check your Save As file type.
This happens every time I hit 'Save' not 'Save As'.
It doesn't save the sldprt or sldasm?
Or it save both sldprt and STL?
If there is not a setting for this, you got corrupted SW.
A repair might help.
I assume you rebooted?
Check if there is any new addin.
Also contact your VAR.
It's trying to save a copy of the Part or Assembly into a different location with the .STL file extension.
I was hoping this was just a toggle in the Settings somewhere that I overlooked.
Thanks for the input. I may go ahead and contact the VAR.
Check addin and macro.
Someone might used one to save everything as STL for 3D print.
I don't remember an option to auto export STL or STEP.
