Hello all,
I'm using sheet metal to make a fabric box cover. There are 2 covers per box that attached to the sides and fold over the top to meet in the middle. So basically the cover has a 90 degree bend.
What I'm trying to do is to show one cover as open and the other as closed without having to have two separate models of the covers. Having 2 separate models throws off my BOM.
Any ideas on how to go about this?

Use Configuration.
As Frederick mentioned you can make two configurations of the lid. One straight and one bent. Then in the BOM select to show all configurations of the same part as one .
Change one part in assembly to "Straight" and the other to "Bend".
Don't need to cheat BOM.

Are you asking how to create a configuration?
If so probably the best way to show you is to suggest you try the tutorials in Solid Works. The Advanced Design tutorial walks you through creating configurations.

I expect Nathan wants the covers to have the same item number and the BOM to show a quantity of 2 for that item. Jim's example shows the right way to do that, not a cheat that I can see. Or am I missing something?
After a couple of hours of a little trial and error I have a better understanding of configs. and was able to get it knocked out.
