I am looking at upgrading from a Dell Precision M6800 laptop to Precision 7740, and wondering best RAM.
FWIW, on current Dell M6800, i7-4940MX, 24GB 800MHz RAM, Nvidia K3100M, SSD = Crucial 1TB SATA M550; time to open:
(1) Assembly with surface laser scans = 2:59 to open (yep, you read it right, three minutes). Memory used 2.1GB, momentary CPU usage 80-90%, mostly CPU = 13%
(2) Different assembly drawing = 1:04 to open, memory = 1.8GB, momentary CPU = 26%, mostly CPU = 13%
New candidate computer = Precision 7740, i9-9980HK, Nvidia RTX4000, SSD = Samsung 2TB 970 EVO Plus. Two possible choices for RAM:
(a) 64GB (4x16) SODIMM-3200, Crucial $280
(b) 128GB (4x32) SODIMM-2666, Samsung $552
The above suggests raw speed matters most?
