Why the solid is displayed as surface only in shaded display ?
Please disregard the following. I didn't see that it's a section view.
It looks like that surface may have been set to "Transparent".
Hold down your Shift key and move your cursor on it, then right-click to get the drop-down. See if it looks like below. If yes, click on "Change Transparency" to restore it to opaque.
Tsang ... Not sure on that one. Certainly looks like it should be sectioned as a Solid Body, that's for sure.
I would set your options though so that you can see whether it's a Solid Body or Surface as it helps to see it in the tree. It's not critical but helpful ...
