I'm having quite poor performance on my Dell 5530 running SW 2019 SP.03

its running the following config see bellow:

What is notice with Solidworks is that my onboard UHD 630 is also used when running SW.

My quadro P2000 never sees any proper use.

I've already tried other quadro drivers (running certified 430.64), making sure a SW profile is enabled and selected the high performance Quadro as my main.

Still no luck. I see quite high temps on my CPU and GPU, I suspect because its not using the Quadro to its full benefit.

Hope you guys can help me trouble shoot this.

Hi. It might be worth telling us what you mean by slow as that term is super vague. Is it "slow" rotating a single simple part, or a 10,000+ assembly.

You CPU speed is a bit slow at 2.6Ghz as SW recommends 3.0Ghz as a minimum. in one of your screenshots of task manager it shows the CPU at 3.87Ghz meaning this is probably a boost speed which is why your CPU temp is high like you mentioned.

You also mentioned your GPU temp was high even though your said you GPU usage was low. If your GPU is normally hot with little load or while idea that could be a separate issue

You could also try disabling your onboard graphics, to force your PC to use your GPU all the time.

If still slow I would check your SOLIDWORKS setting if you have a large/complex assembly. Try turning on the enhanced graphics pipeline feature in your setting as well

It's slow on really large assemblies 5000+ parts. (slugish, not very responsive)
But it already feels slow and unresponsive on small 5 part multi body parts. Especially making detail drawings on this.

Basically what I'm after is a possibility to force Solidworks to take full benefit on the Quadro, as it appears it is not doing so.

In comparison I have a HP Z book 15 at home that directly shows 100% GPU Quadro usage if I 3d view the model. It also still has the onboard GPU enabled. So this should be possbile I think without disabeling the "embedded" GPU.

I suggest installing SP05 and NVIDIA Driver 441.66

I am having similar issues as OP on a GoBoxx SLM (G2521) - i7 8850H w/ Quadro P2000 GPU + onboard card. Current driver is 441.6 Best case scenario is that SW appears to be splitting the load across the two cards, not putting the majority of the work on the P2000. VAR suggested SW's "Enhanced Graphics Performance" but I can't turn on that option (greyed out/unclickable). Then they suggested changing bios to turn off switchable graphics. I cannot do that either (even after consulting w/Boxx about it, they claim it isn't possible to turn off and should have zero or negative effect even if you could turn that off).

Any other suggestions would be great. Boxx and VAR are pointing fingers at each other and being zero help.

Try nVidia Control Panel. Edit SW or Global profile to use P2000 only.

Are you part of the beta program?

The link shown should help you enable the beta program, although I personally don't believe this option will solve your problem.
I don't know what BIOS options you have, but there are some that could affect performance. For example you may be able to completely disable integrated graphics. You may be able to change the bandwidth the enhanced card is allowed to utilize as well.

Yeah I am the only laptop in my company that can't access that function. I tried using enhanced graphics on a colleague's machine but that had no noticeable effect on his machine (which is the same build as mine). Also can't do anything with the BIOS - its running a pretty simplified American Megatrends BIOS so not a lot of options for improvement. Also can't turn off integrated graphics as it appears that is connected to everything on the board.... If I use device manager and disable the integrated card, my laptop can't output to a dock or HDMI outlet.

What I have found helpful is NOT running a borrowed license. For some reason, it really doesn't seem to like the borrowed license and I believe that was the cause of the issue. When I mentioned this to the Solidworks dealer they replied: "With a borrowed license and Solidworks closed, try deleting everything in the C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet directory starting with SW_D_ and then restart SW to see if that makes a difference."

While I haven't had time to try that yet, my colleague was able to try this and said it cured the issues with the borrowed license causing lag. Regardless - the standard network license seems to work without lag.

Hopefully someone finds this useful, as I know I tried a million things before discovering that a borrowed license was the culprit.

Having issues with same System. DELL precision 5530. I75580 2.6 to 4.5 Ghz, 16Ram, Nvidia P2000, SSD drive. I'm working on fairly small models with less 20parts and simple construction. There is a lot of lag time when I click, change something is the feature tree,etc. It's not smooth. Doesn't crash on anything. Graphics seems to be working well. Very fluid movement, crisp texture and definition. Is there a way to Optimize CPU performances ? not sure if I should keep it or not.

The rep. from DELL suggested a Mobile Precision 7740 at 4800$ ! Don't think I need that. They did not really try to understand why the 5530 precision he suggested to me wasn't working well. I'm trying to speak with someone at DELL at Customer service. My SW reseller has no clue, they suggested that I install the Dell pression Optimizer. Not really helpful.

My system was really getting bogged down, Checked with the Computer People and our VAR, just to make sure that everything is updated and the settings are where they need to be. Didn't make a difference so when I was on the phone with the VAR I was asked to open the Task Manager and then I seen the "Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation" is hogging up a lot of memory, it'll just keep building till I end task. Now I have my Task Manager Open all the time, then when I get a low memory pop up, I end the task. Weird part about this Windows Audio thing is that, you don't need to do anything and it will just sit there and suck up memory, it's almost like somebody is using my computer for Bit Com

5 minutes later

Our VAR is doing some extensive research on this and we will see what happens...

Soon after the above is when I started getting pop ups

It like builds up, but don't dump when it reaches a certain level.. ????

The low resource might have nothing to do with memory.
It could be GDI or pagefile.

Seems like that is unusually high memory usage.

Maybe update your sound driver(s).

I had a laptop once that would run off the CPU GPU rather than the Nvidia GPU. If I recall correctly you could right click on the launch icon and choose which GPU SW would run on. If memory recalls it had to be done on the Desktop Icon not the task bar launch icon.

that is the way to get it run. However i still experience the same lag you mention. When assemblying simple stuff it feels so slugish. I had a heat issue so Dell came and replaced my whole motherboard. However the heat issue remains. When running cad my CPU temps go up to 95 deg C.

I have to mention I'm running the laptop trough 2 external monitors, I feel like this laptop does not particarly like that either. However the screen is just too small to work on for me. The display hub I am using is a D3100.

You can set SWX (or any/all applications) to always run with NVIDIA gpu. Open up Control Panel, then Nvidia Control Panel. Typically I set it to use nvidia for everything, which takes the load of the CPU. It will consume more battery when not plugged in, but I believe you can change the setting whether its on battery or not.

95 deg C is way way too hot. What are you measuring the temp with? Some applications are known to not be accurate with certain hardware. If it is accurate, be careful not to permanently damage your machine. If the machine is not under warranty anymore, I would probably re-paste the heat sink with a high quality thermal paste. Actually I'd probably do that anyway.

Check spec with Dell.
The dock use USB 3.
Ask if it still use nVidia GPU when output to USB 3 dock.

i would recommend to do the following things:
- De-active the Intel HD graphics in the computers bios. Search for Graphics and set to Discrete. In my Dell 5510 - the predecessor - it wasn't possible to do that.
- When in bios, de-active HyperThreading. Moving tasks from one virtual core to another is to many overhead. 6 cores are good.
- Install the latest NVidia and Intel HD drivers.
- Make sure, NVidia GPU is up and running, and SWX is assigned to it.
- Maybe you will try out the "Dynamic Streaming" setting in the NVidia panel.
- Rise GDI and USER to a higher value (default: 10000), 65000 is good.
- Active SWX new graphics pipeline
- Maybe you want to try out SWX 2020?

Sadly the 5530 does not allow for disabeling Onboard GPU. As all outbound video is passed through it. So any external screen would be useless.

Without success? Sad.

Yesterday evening I've had a look at my 5510. I had the same issue first time when it was new. I remember that I've updated the NVidia driver as well as I've installed a full driver for the intel HD graphics. Since then (and after the configuration steps mentioned before) it works flawlessly.
When i monitor via GPU-Z and the task manager i can see both graphic cards runnig - as we could see in your screeshots. But SWX uses the right one. In the global settings the NVidia is set as the default device, as well in the program specific settings.
