Hello all. I have a question that I couldn't find the answer to. I'm trying to engrave the outline of a text on a part. I have the text on the part and can extrude boss or cut, but rather, I want to engrave the outline. I'm not sure if i'm using the correct terminology, but what i'm after is like a ball end mill cutting into the surface and then tracing the outline of the text (or other shape). The resulting feature should be like a rounded bottom channel that follows the lines of the sketch.
Thanks,
Brandon
Brandon, I'm not sure if such a CAM Text exists but if it does hopefully someone will chime in with what it's named.
The majority of CAM Texts I've seen are based on the opposite of what you are asking for, thus they are based on simply cutting the text itself or solely the center portion.
That being said, while it would take a bit of work I don't think it would be a stretch to do it on your own. I'd envision setting up the Font you need and doing a shallow feature cut that you could then create an additional sketch for use in profiling the letters. The text itself allows you to up the spacing between letters so you should have a little bit of wiggle room in there hopefully to get the look just right.
Good luck with it and let us know how you make out if an easier option isn't presented ...
