Drawing constraints break when modifying base sketch dimensions

We've been running into a number of issues where we'll make a sketch (say a revolved rectangle to make a disk), and then base other sketches off the face or the edges or thickness, and then later, we'll change the diameter from 10-11mm, and all the references that used the faces or edges break. I can understand if we deleted a line and then remade it that there might be some issues, but we're only changing dimensions, not creating or deleting features. Are we just using bad design practice or is there a setting we need to change? We have to be able to reference parts off other features so this isn't a feature we can ignore or choose not to use.

Thanks!
