Tips for working with imported geometry with large numbers of entities

I'm currently designing an entry statement, using some artwork derived from Adobe Illustrator. I've converted the geometry to DXF using Bezarc software, as this allows me to convert all splines to arcs while controlling the fidelity to the original geometry. Below are screenshots from Bezarc software showing stats of DXF.

When I open the dxf in solidworks, and try to work with it, everything grinds to a halt, presumably because of the number of entities SW has to deal with.

I have a new Dell T3600 with 32GB of RAM, so I don't think my workstation is the problem.

Anyone else deal with this type of geometry import, any tips on how to improve performance? Convert to blocks?

Hopefully this thread becomes a collection of useful tips.......

Thanks!
