I need help installing my student edition, it get to the point where it is asking for a port number and server name
I have tried the default settings with no results
This prompt means you are using a SolidNetwork License Serial Number of SOLIDWORKS during your installation.
That kind of installation requires that you put licenses on a computer somewhere and the software will get licenses from that computer to authorize its use.
The Install in your screen capture is asking you where your license server is. Typically, you would install your license server first. If you haven't, you can continue past this prompt to complete the installation. However, you'll have to set up your license server eventually to license your software.
Student versions do not use network licenses. You should double-check the serial numbers you entered for any and all products.
The Education version that Academic institutions purchase can use network licenses. If your case is that style of license, then I suggest you consult with a teacher about the license server location and set up.
I don't have an instructor this will be a stand alone license can you guide me through installing my license server on my laptop
I've never installed the student version myself, but based on your screenshot you are installing SW2018 SP2.0. This would not appear to be the student version. How did you get it?
A stand-alone installation /student edition serial number does not ask you for a license server. There is something wrong with the serial number(s) you are installing with. I suggest you submit a support request here:
You can supply your serial number there so that support can help you.
