At 180 deg (West) heading there is pretty extreme tearing. I have messed around with different images and different aspect ratios but the tearing persists. Could anyone help me with this, what am I doing wrong?
Instead of a full sphere, use a revolve that stops short of 360° at 359.9999°. Then the artifact is much smaller and hardly noticeable:
That's strange. I can replicate this behavior in SW2016. It seems to wrap a copy of the image on a small sliver of the sphere. It doesn't even matter if you wrap all the way around or not. That sliver still looks the same.
Yes exactly! I'm not sure how to fix the issue.
I tried adding a split line, but that didn't help. It also has the same behavior using either spherical or cylindrical mapping. Seems like a bug to me.
I was asked to create this for a co-worker unfortunately ill have to deliver this ugly version if I don't get the issue resolved.

yep,.. always,.. a "workaround"... bcuz,.. SW Corp does not listen or fix problems,.. FACT.
Weird that this works. When I split the sphere surface into two and apply to just a hemisphere, it still had the same artifact. It hurts my head having to figure out somebody else's (SW's) faulty logic/coding.

..yep,.. the Mapping has always been like wrestling with a pig.
..although, the images seams edge 180 E and W maybe off/overlap a little?... and once you do get the position close(r).. and, if you increase the models "image quality", it looks better and the render looks good but not perfect... (also, note,.. sometimes the final render gets flipped!?)

That's a neat model, but it suffers from the same decal wrapping issue.
