The only standard I know of is Fit Tolerancing per ISO, DIN and others.
As far as SolidWorks allowing this for bilateral (and limit by the way) well if they didn't, someone would complain about that.
Also, I don't know why you would need to tweak anything to suit. Just dimension as you always have and hopefully this is per a standard & capturing your design intent.
