Just happened to one file which I can't rename it and all the options has been checked - see below image
I already check out the file and here is the error mesg as I don't have permission
I also asked all users to close the file from their computers
I can rename other files in the same folder

Normally I rename files in my vault by opening an assembly and then left clicking twice on the part that I want to change, which then allows me to edit the text.
You may need to change the group permissions, as well as user permissions that are stopping you from renaming files.

this means that you have an assembly or a drawing using this part that is checked out.
You need to have all the parents files to be checked in to be able to rename a part.

it drives me nut 'cause I checked "where used" and it's not used any where

I only mention this due to the fact of how some peoples Vaults were handled through the migration process moving from PDM Work-group to PDM Standard/Professional. Any number of us have had rather substantial issues with files that have gone through the migration process having their Where Used/Contains flipped ...

I should mention in the previous reply that I checked both "Where used" and "Contains"
EDIT: as what happened in wPDM, I sometimes couldn't rename a file but I can next day
I thought about this yesterday but no luck today
Christian, keep in mind that files which are in private state (before first check-in) are not listing in "contains" or "where used" tabs but they can block you from renaming.
PDM is not system where something can hang and for the next day it starts working . If you have a needed permision (or you use 'admin' user) then you can find how many files are in private state, let's verify if some of them can use files which you're trying to rename.

What I was talking about is the wPDM which was stopped supporting for yrs and I never expect it to work right
and I wish It'd happen same as in PDM standard
By the way, file I tried to rename is not in private state and I also tried to changed it to diff. state to test
Now I guess there's something else caused the issue with this file as I can rename other files in the same folder
Christian, I was not meaning if files which you're trying to rename are in private state but if in the vault exists other files (ie. assembly or drawing) which they are in the private state and which they are using files which you are trying to rename.

As far as I know if a file is in Private state PDM is not tracking the references, so it should not block the rename. I know it does not block a move function. But maybe rename is different.
In regards to references checked out on another machine, SolidWorks PDM is horrible at blocking rename or move because a great great great grandparent file is checked out.
If you have access to SQL management studio and read access to the vault database you could use this query to look for referenced files that are checked out.

Sometimes the same file/s show up in all the tables, but other times different ones show up in different tables. I found it is best to use the whole query.

I have the same problem. Some files cannot be renamed even if all references are checked in. Have checked it in PDM as admin. How to find the invisible references?

It's a pain process and I don't have have a work around for it
I manually checked all the ref. and they are clear; however I just can't rename the file

Yes, we have to do it manually. The problem is that all reference files must be checked in and it is really hard to find them. Although all users have checked all files in PDM, there are still some that cannot be found. Very time consuming work.
