i didn't remember for sure, but maybe the options of the trim feature were extended since 2015.
I would recommend to "play" around a litte bit with the marked options:

I believe the problem is with your first Trim/Extend function, unless you want to notch the outside channel around the angle?
I suppressed that feature, and added two more; one to trim the channel at the corner, and another one to trim the angle at the junction with the channel (and I selected Faces for the trim boundary in both cases, but that probably doesn't matter).

Yes. I did remove some members on Trim/Extend 11 and the cut through went away. Thanks for your help!
