I'm working on a presentation for a job interview and would like feedback on my initial problem please.
This is my given topic:
PREPARE AND PRESENT A SAMPLE LESSON DEMONSTRATING FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS ON A 2" X 2" X 1/8" TUBE STEEL CROSS-SECTION SUBJECTED TO A 1000 LB LOAD. VERIFY THE RESULTS OF THE FEA SOFTWARE ANALYSIS BY COMPLETING A SIMPLE HAND CALCULATION FOR COMPRESSIVE STRESS.
I have created a study using Alloy steel. I have clarified that this is a 2x2 square with 1/8" wall.
question #1: don't I need a length?
I put 10 inches in for my test. I put the force coming from the top since it's talking about a cross section.
Here are my results:
And here are my (new) hand calculations:
am I looking at the displacement1 correctly where it says -8.8733e-5 is the displacement Solidworks is coming up with?
Keep in mind that hand calculations vs software results may not match. This video should help you understand the Compressive Stress
