I'm trying to model some threads using surfaces. I know there are many other ways, but this is the way that I would like to do it. I model the sides of each thread and then knit it all together.
The issue I am running into is that the leading thread surface sweeps fine from front to back, but the trailing thread surface gets hung up on a split in the 3D curve that I'm using. I can't use a helix for the 3D curve do to some constraints. You can see in the picture that both have splits in the curve, but only one develops a discontinuity. The "split" is in the 3D curve because the screw diameter goes from a taper to a constant diameter at this point. The order that I model them in relation to the root, flat, surface does not matter.
My question is if there is anything I can do to make the sweep model a smooth surface across the "split" in the 3D curve.
