How about using either “Add Loft Section” in drop down menu or adding a profile manually. Which one is most preferred? Because I found “Add Loft Section” is less controllable.

Not sure what you mean
When you use this feature, you have a choice to add extra profile on the plane you pick
see below image: sketch38 is an extra profile using "Add Loft Section"
I found that “Add Loft Section” profile is less manipulative compared with profile created (sketched) manually. I wish to know whether it is advisable to use it.

well... It's a tool to modify feature so you don't have to start over
