Cannot select sketch text for extrude.

I am using SW2014 SP5.

I created a sketch with sketch text entities with the intent of extruding the text. I have done this countless times.

Today, SW will not allow me to select any of the sketch text entities / edges / regions, etc. in the extrude command's "Selected Contours" area. I can select NON-sketch text entities. I have tried changing fonts and sizes. I tried rebooting my machine. I feel like I have lost my mind!

Am I just having Monday on Tuesday this week and I have forgotten something amazingly basic? Sample file attached.

Correct Answer

Try cleaning up your electrical symbol. I removed the solid line in the trunk of the "T" shape. Everything extruded normally as expected. I'm using 2019, otherwise I would upload the results.

I wish I could help, but I can't figure it out either. I tried deleting the selections under "Selected Contours" and box-selecting the sketch text. It seemed to highlight the text, but didn't add it to the selection box. When I clicked OK anyway just to see what would happen I got the "The sketch has intersecting contours" error message.

I tried with the default text font, and even tried changing fonts, but nothing worked.

Glenn Schroeder, that is exactly the behavior I am seeing... at least I am not crazy (or two of us are).

HI Daen,

When I used 1 sketch for both the location and the text, I got it to work. Perhaps theres something about one of the 2 sketches that's off?

I also found that the text would extrude if the ground / earth icon entities were not in the sketch. I just deleted moved to a separate sketch. Thanks for identifying the root cause.

But the root^2 cause? Why was this problematic? Perhaps because I am still using the same version of the software that Columbus sailed with...

You're welcome. I find that if I keep my sketches clean and closed, I have fewer errors overall. Nothing wrong with your sketch really. It will extrude. The mix of closed and open entities makes it struggle a bit.
