I am inside of a large assembly and when I create a new part inside that assembly it is automatically generating mates to that part before I even select a plane to begin on. This then causes errors. Is there a way to stop this?
How are you creating that new part? Are you going Insert/New Component?
Try this... Open a New Part Template, save it and switch to the assembly and then insert the just saved part by drag and dropping it to the point of origin...
Yes I am doing it the insert > new part. I have done that method in the past and it works but in order to use it, I need to save it and I like to design with internally saved parts until I am happy with the design. At that point I save the files on my server. It works fine on smaller assemblies but some larger assemblies when I hit the button for new part before I even select a plain it has mates attached to it, sometimes it complete destroys my assembly throwing parts all over the place and makes some even disappear due to failure and the only work around is to close solidworks without saving and relaunching. This a bug?
Jeremy Brock - Did you check with your VAR? Can you record your screen and re-create the issue?, sounds like a bug..
Can you share the video of your working procedure and issue?
Thanks and Regards,
Solidworks - new part error - YouTube
Just a short video showing what happens to the part the moment it is generated using the Insert > new part option.
The video is not clear. can you please update any quality video for better understanding of your query?
Ill see what I can do, I just took a video with my phone of the item being generated in the item tree after selecting new part. I cannot share video of the actual project and or folder labels in the item tree which are located just above it lol.
If possible, check with sample assembly file for reproducing the issue. You will get a clear idea
Try the link above to a new video.
It looks like a bug. check with some other model for ensuring the issue is specific to this particular document or all document.
