Sheetmetal - Creating Keys in an assembly

Looking for the most efficient way to make rectangular keys in mating sheet metal parts. By keys, I mean male/female keys that aid the fabricator in fitting parts together and welding internal structures externally.

I've been using the tedious method of creating converted entities in the female part based off the male, but I want to see if there is a better method. Thanks! Attached a photo for a more clear explanation.

EDIT: I'd like to add, that I tend to add an extra .05 in length to the female portion to account for burs/tolerance from the laser.
