Can I save a drawing view with a general table (not dynamically linked) in library for repeated use?
I've tried to make a block of this and failed. I can make a .png or .jpeg and insert as a picture but the quality
looks bad. Any ideas?
I have never tried to include a table in a block, but if you are willing to have a block and a table in your library - that is definitely doable. use the "convert view to sketch" tool.
2019 SOLIDWORKS Help - Convert View to Sketch PropertyManager
Thank you. I am able to save the view as a sketch but I was hoping for a way to save it with the table as a sketch. There are quite a few of these type of tables I neet to put on detail pages of pipe spool drawing sets. I would like not to have to piece together a sketch block and table everytime. There has got to be an easier way.
A true general table is not linked to anything. Is your table truly general?
Correct, is not linked to any drawing.
So if you converted your view to a sketch and the table is not linked to anything is there still an issue. Sorry, I am just trying to understand your question.
I have not yet found a way to convert a table (even a general tale) to a sketch.to include with the converted drawing.
Why do you want to convert the table? It is static.
Because I use many of these same tables with illustrations (like in the picture) at the end of spool drawing packages.
It would be nice to have blocks in my library to drag in.
Sketch the table and create annotations for the text. You should be able to make a block out of that. Or maybe convert the drawing to a dxf, that may change the table into sketch lines and the text into annotations (just a thought, I have not tried this myself).
My dxf idea seemed to work but I only made a very simple table
I'll try that in the morning. The only drag would be redoing all the tables. We'll see...
Like I stated try exporting drawing as dxf then import and make table into block. My simple example above worked for me.
As far as I'm aware, blocks only work with sketch entities, so table is probably not considered as a sketch entitiy by SWX.
A couple of options are .... (BTW the second one I have used)
Save the table to your Options/System Options/General Tables Template location and then choose, Insert/Tables/General Table next to any view you want
Save the drawing out as DWG,
Open up in acad or draftsight etc, strip out all other unwanted geometry, (maybe move your sketch goemetry and table to 0,0 purge and save dwg.
You can then import this DWG as a block into your SWX sheet, browse & choose Autocad DWG Blocks option
and browse to where you saved DWG.
As noted earlier, for setting default directories, if you have set your Options/System Options/General Tables Template location and have saved your dwg there, that will be the default directory SWX will go to, when you choose browse.
If you want you can save that inserted Block geometry into its native block file (sldblk) and adjust line widths etc to get things how you want!!
