I'm still not sure why such a large, heavy, static, device needs to be wireless. Especially when it still takes up a USB port with the dongle.
In a previous job I had my large spacemouse plugged in by USB, but I also had a wireless dongle in my laptop so that I could use one of the smaller travel-size ones for going in to meeting rooms with.
With this setup I'd envisage having the spacemouse typically wired in to my laptop docking station, and then having the wireless receiver in a USB port on the laptop itself. Then when I go to meetings I just quickly unplug both and run off batteries for the duration of the meeting.
It's easier to take to meetings when you un-dock your laptop. If you have a desktop, then yea, it's probably pointless.
Yea I wouldn't take it into a meeting anyway. Even with one person at my desk it takes 5 minutes to get them away from it and concentrating on what's on the screen.
I have the wired version and the wireless mouse with the large pad. I like having the lager pad at my desk specially since using two monitors.
