There are probably multiple was of doing this, and would welcome some help please. I want to create a segmented cylinder made up of say 20 individual staves.
The question I have is how would I go about creating an assembly drawing or component from say 20 staves that have an included angle of say 18degrees automatically with a script so that I do not have to manually align them?

would a Circular pattern not do the trick? You could make it equation driven depending on the angle of the part.

you could create a sketch in the assembly with a global variable "n" as the number of stoves and link the angle to "n".
Then insert a new empty part and create the feature in context of assembly, by converting to sketch the assembly sketch.
Then in the assembly create a circular pattern linking the number of instances to "n".
By changing the variable "n" the assembly and the part will update accordingly.

Thanks very much Sergio. Perfect. I think I was partially on the right track thanks to Bjorn's post, but could not get the pattern to rotate around the long face of the stave. You have solved it elegantly.
