Can anybody convert this to sheet metal.
I have tried for an hour now and cannot work out where I am going wrong.
Convert the import to a solid then use Insert Bends:
This assumes you have the tooling available for a smooth conical bend.
Other wise the step bending shown in the lofted posts might be the avenue traveled.
I hope this helps.
Don't know if it's the most elegant way, but I added a sketch to both end faces, converted the top edges. Then did a loft bend between them.
Can you upload an x_t for the pre-2019 crowd?
Save as a Parasolid. It's dummy 3D but since this is a convert post, losing the intelligence shouldn't matter:
Sorry buddy I can't open it...is it a SW2019 file?
yes 2109 file pal
As a pal he said, Use Lofted Bends
2018 SOLIDWORKS Help - Lofted Bends
Do you want the edges rolled smooth or just bent.
Jason... You cannot "Convert" an imported file that has non-uniform bends. You will have to do what Bjorn Hulman did and create a new model using Lofted-Bend.. You can use use the geometry from the imported model in order to come up with the two profiles required. Then hide or do a Delete/Keep Body on the Imported part.
Formed or Bent Option
Edit:.. If you want more bend lines you can change that in the Lofted-Bends property manager.
This is the correct way of obtaining the part.
Well,, I'll be darned.. I didn't think "Insert Bends" could handle non-uniform. I stand corrected..
this was the method I was hoping would be available, I had done it using the lofted bend option.
but I assumed this method would be available somewhere.
Sheet meta aint really my thing, as soon as things got away for uniform faces i'm lost.
thank you to everybody for your help
