New Solidworks install on new PC crashes on one assembly

Hello everyone,

I have a new engineer running a Solidworks 2015 SP5 on a new (<2 weeks old) Dell Precision 5820 Tower workstation.  Here are the base specs:

  • Intel Xeon Processor 3.75 GHz
  • Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
  • 32 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA Quadro 4000 graphics card updated to latest driver

When this engineer opens a particular complex assembly, Solidworks crashes as soon as the components finish loading and the structure tree starts to populate, with no popups or error messages.  Solidworks RX Diagnostics only turned up a driver update recommendation (lesser driver was installed at first), but updating the driver to the latest supported version yielded the same results.  Looking at the event logs on this computer show only standard Windows APPCRASH events, with the problem programs being sldworks.exe.  This same computer can open other, more complex, assemblies with no issues.  In addition, other engineers (we have 15 total) with older (1+ year old), lesser-spec workstations, are able to open the original “problem” assembly with no issues. So, it appears the problem is workstation specific. I would appreciate if anyone could offer any suggestions on how to resolve this issue.  Upgrading to a new version of Solidworks is not possible at this time, as we do not have a current support agreement.

Thanks in advance,
