I just opened sw setup and buttons are not working. I don't want to dig into the problems wine might cause so I think using a virtual machine would be more practical I guess.
Fatih,.. thank you for the feedback!.. I want to try as well, probably using Debian or Mint?... and agree,.. based on past test, the virtual machine with 3D graphics still is the best option.
I am using Solus with Budgie desktop environment. I am not a power Gnu/Linux user so it might behave differently on your side when you try. I tried a few 3D apps on a virtual Win7 x64 setup. I tried Netfabb, Cura, Solidworks and Blender. This is not with 3D graphics enabled, I couldn't make graphics card bypass to virtual machine so it was using my integrated gpu on intel cpu (i5-3570k). This setup is not available right now, so I might not able to provide any more feedback.
Also there is an example on iMac that Windows with bootcamp is working great when playing games, it performs around 60fps at 4k on latest Forza. It's good to guess 3D powered apps should behave as accordingly.
