Does Solidworks offers gears as a toolbox?

We have this unit we are designing and it needs a little door on the front panel. How do we make the door open and close using mechanism such as gears?

Gears are not the only option. If you guys know of any other way to do this please let me know. The "door" doesn't have need a button to open and close. Just needs a finger to do that.

I have looked at the opening "doors" of tape decks and boom boxes but don't know how it works without dismantling the whole unit.

I would browse thru 3D content central. There's some users with some great imaginations that are producing many useable components in solidworks.

I dont know what its like in your area but where I live the local recycling station get all sorts of stuff in that is dirt cheap to pull apart - very often free - the advantage in looking at old worn stuff is you get to appreciate not only how it works but what its weaknesses are.
tapedecks and CD player mechanisms would be good targets for your challenge..
not only gears though - parallel arms/links with springs and dampers or motor driven etc.. even mini gas strut... dunno..

I seem to recall seeing a book of useful mechanisms somewhere along the line
maybe you could try searching for info like that on the internet or perhaps your local library
also patent schematics might give you a general idea how to implement the action or at least understand those solns that have been thought of before

Toolbox does have sprocket & gear choices. They're under the POWER TRANSMISSION part of Toolbox

  I have paid for 2008 Office Premium but my toolbox appears not to contain power transmission or gears.

John, what is your SP of Solidworks. Can you upload a screen shot of your Tools > Add In and The Tool Box window (on the right side)

  I normally hide the Task Pane because it seems to be a waste of screen real estate. Your mention of right side prompted me to open it and explore.
  
  Why would I look for gears under TaskPane>DesignLibrary>Toolbox>ISO>PowerTransmission instead of MenuBar>Toolbox?

    You can keep it hide and only show it when you need some item from toolbox or library.

I've used Rush Gears Inc. website for generating and downloading gear models with good success.

Rush Gears Inc.

You don't need to install their 3D viewer. Just configure the gear that you want and find the "Get CAD" button.
