I regularly work with large aluminium extrusion frameworks and name each extrusion part as a function of its length i.e. XXXX-XX-1050 would be a 1050mm length of extrusion.
Sometimes I'll update the length of the extruded part and not actually save it correctly with the new corresponding part number, leaving me with conflicting information on the auto generated BOM.
Is there a way that I can export the extruded length of each part of extrusion within the assembly, as well as the BOM so that part number and corresponding length can quickly be compared side by side in excel?
Thanks,
George
99 times out of 100, it's a bad idea to put dimensional information into the part file name. Results in the problem you are now describing.
It's elementary to create a custom property that is linked to the length dimension.
Also, if you've never used the Structural Member feature, you may want to check it out. Cuts modeling time for a basic rectangular prism extrusion frame by about 90% compared to making separate files for each length member and assembling them, then you can generate a cutlist with length information.
