I have a list of 20 plus custom file properties that I need to add to every file for use in title blocks and BOM's. Is there any way to have these custom properties added to my base file so I only need to fill in the values?
Start a new part. Add the properties. Save as template.
I have a templates folder, how do I overwrite the templates in that folder?
Or how do I save my new template so that is what I get when I start a new part?
I should say, I'm a fairly new solidworks user, only a few months now.
well, just answered my own question, File - Save As - prt.dot
The free tool #TASK will do this:
Also, look into Property Tab Builder.
It will provide a nicer and more consistent input of custom properties.
Also, all properties built into your Tab Builder template get added to the file, whether or not a value has been added.
This will be of value with existing files as all properties in your Tab Builder template get added to existing files.
This won't happen with the template approach as this only applies to new files.
If you want to add or modify property values, you can use property tab builder
It's in your task pane, easy and convenient
Mary Strang - I use a Excel Spreadsheet Macro that was written by Markku Lehtola - that I modified for our workflow here... If you click on Markku's name, it'll take you to his page and then look under his Content.
See the attached
This spreadsheet reads all the part or assembly Custom Properties and you will also be able to Write the Custom Properties back into the files..
Thanks for all the replies. I built my property tab and it worked!
This will save me so much time.
Although, my typing skills definitely improved typing all these properties in every time.
