I'm drawing a bracket that is 2-3/4" tall with a radius of 1-1/8" on the top. When I add the fillet the part changes to only 2-3/16" tall. Is there a way to lock in your dimensions so that when I add a fillet the overall height doesn't change?
One simple way would be to chamfer the corner in the sketch instead of in a separate feature, then dimension to the top of the radius (see How can I dimension to the edge of a circle or arc instead of to the center? if you aren't familiar with dimensioning to the outside edge of a radius or circle). This way if the radius value is edited the overall height will stay at 2-3/4".
Not with the fillet tool.
You'll need to add the 'fillet' in the sketch before you extrude.
It doesn't give me the option to fillet in sketch mode.
NM I found it in sketch mode....sorry I'm very new to Solidworks and it's a lot different from CAD
Go through tutorial and help on how to sketch.
You can sketch line -> arc -> line.
You don't have the icon I highlighted in my screenshot? If it's not there you should still be able to access it by other methods. Right-click while in the active sketch and go to Sketch Tools, and it should also be available in one of the dropdowns at the top of your screen under Sketch Tools. I'm at home now so working from memory.
Just remember that it might be a good idea to tie the location of the hole to the radius. It looks like your material above the hole is getting pretty thin and prone to rip out depending on usage.
