creating drawing views normal to a plane

We make a tank from a piece of large HDPE pipe.  We mill recesses on the surface for pipe nozzles at various angles around the pipe.  I am trying to create multiple views that are normal to the planes the hole sketches were created on, so I can dimension the holes and provide DXF files for the milling operation.  If I use view normal to a plane I get a normal view, ie the view is from a camera an infinite distance away.  Click on save view and the view becomes that of a camera close to the object.  You can tell because holes on the backside of the pipe in line with holes in the front now appear off center, and the ends of the pipe have a radius.  How do I get the correct views in the drawing?
