I have a condition where a short edge of a channel edge meets a tank shell with a fillet weld. The rest of the same channel edge extends past the shell and does not contact the tank's elliptical dome, with the purpose of supporting other structures coming up to the tank.

I first extruded a small body to merge with channel body with the shell. It is about 1/16" deep.

When I applied a 1/4" fillet to this small edge, its radius extended the full length of the channel because it is wider then the extruded boss, which is not my intent.

I applied a Split line to each side face of the channel, then applied the fillet, and the fillet stopped at the split line because the one face is now two faces. Is this the right way to keep a fillet from perpetuating across an entire face, or is there a fillet option which I am missing that keeps it from extending the entire length of a face?

Thank you.
