Solidworks cam won't pick correct end mill size for counterbobore. I have a .125 thru hole and .188 c'bore. It seems like no matter the actual size of the c'bore it always pick .25 dia. endmil.?
I think you need to set the operation to use a tool diameter expression vs. a static tool. I have created a short video to show where this exists and can be adjusted.
See attached video.
I did have the operation tool selection set to use expression. I have been playing with these settings but have no idea what to set the expression to. The program selects the correct drill size for the thru hole. This expression is set to +0 & +0. I setting the contour operation to the same values but no matter what it still selects the .25 dia. endmill. I would expect that after playing with the expression values that I would eventually see a different result. Is there some global setting that overrides the tool selection expression values?
I made a simple test block with 3 different size c'bore to help illustrate what I am experiencing.
test block small c'bore size .156
test block medium c'bore size .188
test block large c'bore size .250
One more quick question. In the machine setup under the tool crib tab, do you happen to have it set to use only Tool crib tools? I am just checking as this may cause an issue for dynamic selection depending on the tools. I will test this on a sample like yours as well.
This led me to the answer I was looking for! My setting for use tool crib tool only was unchecked just as you have shown above. However when I unchecked the tool crib priority box, the program selected the correct endmil size for each c'bore correctly!
Thank you so much!
You beat me to it! I was going to mention the priority as well.
Have a great rest of your week.
