We just upgraded SOLIDWORKS and I plan on using the PDM file version upgrade tool to upgrade our files. What is the best practice when doing this, meaning which settings do most people use?
- Create a new version
- Overwrite existing version
- Update references
- Update shared librael parts only and have users manually update other files as needed
My best suggestion is to only run it or run it first on files that users don't have edit rights.. aka the 'Approved' or 'Released' state. As users are normally working on files, they will naturally upgrade them during their normal day to day operations.
I always prefer creating a new version so you have an old version you can revert back to in an older piece of software if needed.
