Convert to drawing to pdf task - revision does not appear in the file name. Is this a bug?
S-054527 Using the SOLIDWORKS® Enterprise PDM Convert Task, is it possible to use a variable value from the data card of the source file in the output FILE name?
And also follow S-074357 if you are using PDM 2018.
Hi Jonathan, what version of PDM are you using (PDM Standard or Pro)? and what year and service pack (eg 2018 SP2)
Also, in the output file name, are you using a variable caleed Revision, or the Source file revision? (which are two different things)
We are using PDM Pro, 2018 SP4.0.
We use the source file revision.
When a part gets approved through the workflow, it goes to Rev A. After doing this, I use the Convert to PDF task. Sometimes, parts have no Revision, even though they should be at Rev A.
My VAR's PDM guy helped me with this exact same problem. We are using 2017 PDM Pro SP4.1 but allegedly it has been fixed in 2018. There is a Knowledge Base article that details the procedure to fix to the PDF conversion task to address just this issue. I wish I could tell you which one it is but I mostly sat there as he fixed it via a Remote Desktop session and I just watched!
I was just digging thru my emails and trying to find these references and you beat me to the punch. Thanks!
Thanks Guys, but I am not sure where this is in PDM. I can't see convert under tasks in my pdm admin???
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
1. Expand ‘Tasks’ > ‘Convert’.
2. In the ‘Convert – Properties’ dialog box > open the 'Output File Details' page.
3. Click 'Advanced Scripting Options'.
4. In the 'Advanced Scripting Options' dialog box, click 'Reset’. This will load the current version of the script.
It looks like, from your included screen shot, that your task is the one called "PDF Conversion" RMB on that task and you should be able to follow from Step 2 forward...
Thanks heaps Eric
At this point, you're on your own! Like I said, my VAR's PDM guy did ALL the heavy lifting in updating that API script. I just watched and remembered how we got there. Good luck - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!
I have noticed that my revision is not mapping when my drawing is in the "Approved" State. It can map the revision to the file name when in "Work in Progress". But we never want to do this. We want to make PDFs only when they are approved, not when they are work in progress. Has anyone had this issue and know a fix?
I was at SWW19 all last week and I was also out of the office today. When I get in tomorrow, I'll take a look at our setup and see what jogs my memory. Stay tuned.
Eric I contacted my VAR, and they changed the script again and it seems to work fine now.
I was thinking that it may have been a memory caching issue, where after it goes through the workflow and changes state the .slddrw file is in the older version.
Excellent! I had a flash this morning that I seemed to recall the original script fix was a workaround to fix an issue in either 2016 or 2017 and they repaired it in 2018 so maybe that was related to your situation. Nonetheless, I'm glad you're back to normal/expecterd operations!
