So, painfully simple question, I know, but I can't seem to find Insert>Drawing Model.
Having trouble adding the side view of my model to the drawing.
Ok, SolidWorks 101 here. There are computer files for Drawings, Assemblies, and Parts. Know which one your working in at all times.
To answer your original question; go to file -> make drawing from part. That will automatically open a new drawing file and import the part your currently working on. Then those tools that you can only use in drawing will no longer be greyed out.
we have a slightly different layout, but as you can see, the projected view option (on the side view layout toolbar) is greyed out.
Kent, it looks like you're in the Solid Part file. You need to create a drawing ...
File --- New --- Drawing ... Then populate the drawing sheet with whatever views you require.
THANK YOU. would you believe that I'm in a college program that needs solidworks? the professor doesn't do any kind of instruction and leaves it up to us to scour the internet for answers.
Wow, image the old-timers doing this before the internet was actually useful for that sort of thing.
I think that doing some of the Solidworks Tutorials will do you a lot of good.
How do I do this SOLIDWORKS Forum thing?
Is this what you are trying to achive?
Bottom Right Hand Corner of Solidworks will tell you "Editing Part", Editing Assembly" or "Editing Drawing".
School need to teach which one is "model" and "drawing".
I know a few that use and think they're the same.
Do they use SW more than once or twice a year?
Yes, SW or other CAD.
Very confusing on what they want.
