I suspect you wouldn't get good performance with the video card in option 1. I'd suggest you go to the site I linked to in the third paragraph of What specs do I need for a new computer to use SolidWorks? and see if it's certified to work with Solidworks.
*Dell T5500 desktop workstation:
*Hexcore Intel Xeon X5690 processor, 6 core / 12 thread CPU 3.46/3.73 GHZ Boost.
*24GB RAM, triple channel mode.
*1TB SSD Drive
*DVD RW BurnerWireless adapter
*DriveNvidia Quadro 1800 video card
*DisplayPort + DVI + HDMIMultimedia card reader DVD RW Burner
I guess I could ask the guy to swap the video cards. Thank you for the suggestion.
BTW $500 seems like a good price for either set up or am I missing something?
Not bad for US$500.
Then, since the Quadro FX 1800 isn't certified from SW, I'll take the GTX1060.
