You're best bet is to use Dispatch... look in the admin guide
located on your PDM CD in the support folder. There are some
instructions on how to install Dispatch... and it's a simple little
2-second thing to set it up to do that.
I just got done setting that up on our vault because we've got
users creating files and not checking them, so I've got the entire
vault set up to be where every file that gets created in the vault
gets automatically checked in once and then checked back
out.
Yes.. but now other people than just the user can see the
file. We've had folders that we can't delete in the vault that say
they have hidden files in them and we can't figure out who has
files in that folder that have never been checked in. By checking
them in and then right back out, they are added into the vault once
so other can people can see the files and see that they've been
checked out by X user.
Sure... refer to the screenshot attached and... if you don't
have Dispatch installed, refer to
1. Log into the administration panel for PDM
2. Click the "+" next to "Add-Ins" to expand that menu
3. Right-Click on "Dispatch" --> "Administrate Actions..."
4. On the new window that opens, click on [Add...]
**Refer to the screenshot for the rest of this:
5. In the "Edit Action" dialog that opens, Give it an action name
and description (Refer to the screen shot)
6. Under "Activation" check the box that says "During add"
7. Click [Conditions] next to the "During add"
8. In the "Add condition" dialog, enter the path to the folder that
you want to set this action on. You can use % as a wildcard and you
can use % to say "The whole vault"
9. Select "After the add operation." under "When to activate"
10. Click [OK] to close that dialog
11. Back in the "Edit Action" dialog, click [Add...]
12. Select "Check in file from the drop-down and click [OK]
13. In the "Check in file" dialog that pops up, next to "Filename:"
click the [->]
14. Choose "File Variables" --> "Path to selected file"
15. Enter a check-in comment if you'd like one here
16. Click [OK]
17. Do the same thing for "Check Out file" if you want to check it
back out after it's been checked in like I'm doing.
18. Click [OK] to get out of the "Edit Action" dialog
19. Click [OK] to get out of the "Administrate Action" dialog
Ok... don't know what happened here.. but in that previous
post at the top here's the rest of it:
... if you don't have Dispatch installed, refer to the admin guide
located under the support folder on the PDM installation CD for
instructions on how to install. It's really simple, so don't worry,
it's not a complicated thing to do.
I too am trying to accomplish this for a single file folder.
All files added to this folder should be automatically checked-in.
I am getting the following message though...
Do you happen to know how I would do that? Or, do you know
how I un-install it to re-install it to ensure that it is done
correctly. All I see is right click Dispatch undr the Add-ins and
select remove.
Thank you Christina. It appears that we need to get an
updated release of our PDF add-in tool. I was able to get Dispatch
to work properly when the PDF add-in tool was un-installed.
I did discover one issue with this method. If you are in
Solidworks and create a new drawing, then you save it to the vault
you will get a Dispatch error since it cannot check in the file
since it is open in Solidworks.........
This should not be a problem Mike. The files that are sent,
added, or saved to this folder are actually being generated in the
back ground. However, I appreciete the heads up and will keep an
eye on it.
Otherwise, I think that would take an addin.
