when viewing mates on a part's sketch; how to recognize what relations are ref. such as from assembly
While you are in your sketch, click on "Display/Delete Relations" - Then you can show "External" in the drop down - This will show all of the relations that are outside of the sketch.
(You can see them under "All in this sketch", they are the ones with the arrows "->")
I think there may be a mismatch in terminology.
Sketches have relations.
Can you post some screen shots or upload your files?
Sorry, You're right. It's relation, not mate

Forgive my slowness, but even with a picture, I'm not grasping what your issue/question is.
I'd better explain more
As you can see arrow from the FM, this part has some relations adapted from other files in the assembly
I wanted to know if there is a way to recognize what relations are adapted to other files
What do you mean by "ref."?
Thank you, Todd
It's all I want to know
The "External" filter in "Display/Delete" relations will show relations that are external to the sketch, but not the model - the relation could be to another feature in the same file. If you want to see which relations are defined in context, then you should pick the "Defined In Context" option instead.
--my bad, I couldn't find an example with an assembly reference, so I mistakenly went for "External."
Sorry about that,
Here is what I want to know
Could you change the Correct Answer to post #10? That will help anyone who uses this thread to answer their own question.
Oh, never noticed that the posts were numbered - I'm always viewing in "threaded" view mode, so it hides the post numbers.
I believe you mean the reply from @Tom.
By the way, How to display the post #

In your example, see how the first relation in the list is selected? I'm pretty sure that the relation icon just to the right of your blue arrow, the one that's a different color from the rest, is the relation that's highlighted. Try clicking on the other relations in the list and the corresponding icon in the graphics area should change color.
Thank you, Glenn
The diff. colors shows after running the display/delete relations. I was confused because I never used this feature before and not sure how to recognize them. it'd better from now on.
No worries. I just wanted to point out a more narrowed down filter. "External Reference" will still show the in-context relations, but you'll see others as well and look through the list for ones that contain "->" to find the in-context items.
Try turn on Dynamic Reference:
When you select feature in the tree, it'll point to feature it referenced and referencing.
