I am responsible for deploying Solidworks and eDrawings
viewer. I have performed many Solidworks version and SP updates as
well as many other software applications. I'm telling you this to
give you some of my professional background/experience. In other
words...I am not new to this.
I have found and issue with eDrawings 2009 viewer. It appears that if you have eDrawings 2008 installed and remove it, then install eDrawings 2009, you cannot uninstall eDrawings 2009. It does not matter what method you attempt to uninstall 2009 with, it hangs up the computer and eventually you get an non-responding error.
I have tested this on multiple computers using every scenario for the installation. Each resulting in the same problem. If anyone has seen this please let me know. I think this is a bug in eDrawings 2009. This will certainly cause headaches next year when eDrawings 2010 is out.
Thanks,
Jon

I do not have any Virus Scan software installed. I am using freshly imaged computers to perform the testing. Maybe someone out there would be willing to perform the same steps I am taking and tell me if they are having the same issue.
Steps:
On a computer that does not have SolidWorks installed:
1. Install eDrawings 2008 SP4 (free viewer).
2. Install eDrawings 2009 SP2 (free viewer).
3. Uninstall eDrawings 2008 SP4.
4. Uninstall eDrawings 2009 SP2.
If your computer does not hang please let me know. I have done this on at least 12 different computers and get the same outcome.
Why are you installing eD-2009 before uninstalling eD-2008 ?
In your case, I suspect a registry security permissions issue. Could be a certain key is no longer writeable for the "SYSTEM" account. I've had that happen with Cosmos although I get 1603 error...it doesn't just stop. I fixed it by right clicking on the top level "Local Machine" key and reset all child permissions. Takes a few minutes to reset.
This one machine is killing me.
1st I ran the setup program as I've always done. This usually removes the older version then installs new version.
When that didn't work, I went to add/remove programs and uninstalled 2008, then ran the setup file again. I get the error 1714 "older version can't be removed"
Next I ran MS cleanup utility, edrawings didn't show in the list of installs,
I've shut off my virus software, my spy/malware software. Nothing worked.
Hope you can help
