Hi, my school has Student Edition 2017-2018 which I can use. I know that SolidWorks has updated the student edition to 2018-2019. Is there any improvement in support for 4K display and solving of the scaling issue in the 2018-2019 student version?
Probably not but new Windows 10 supposed to allow text size scale.
Still waiting for the update on my laptop to test.
SWX can handle 4k display resolution?
Yes, text will be tiny.
Can't read anything on my 65" TV unless I seat 3 ft from it.
Windows could scale the app so you can read but that totally defeat the purpose of using 4k.
It's like upscale 1080 to 4k. You see bigger blob.
I checked out FHD screen of many Windows laptops in some computer stores but the screen estate is too small for my work. So I ended up buying a 4K laptop which is very nice. Now I want to test how good/bad it is when running SW. I can either get 2017-2018 from school for free or buy 2018-2019 using my own money.
Peter, check out this existing thread here; https://forum.solidworks.com/message/877702?q=solidworks%204k
Hope that helps.
Hi Albie, When you wrote "2018 SP4.0", do you mean the normal commerical version rather than the student verison?
Is there any SW Support Staff who knows the inner workings of SW well to answer if there is any changes between Student Edition 2017-2018 to 2018-2019 that makes the software more 4K friendly?
They are the same version of the software, there are just slight differences in the way you can use it. But the graphics as far as I'm aware will have no difference between versions.
