I noticed that my colleagues who work with composer are inserting composer pictures (.png) into word when creating instructions. Is it possible to insert composer file directly (similarly as autocad drawing) and to be able to open it in composer when double clicking on it?

ok I've tried this. However in excel 2016 I loose control of the activex object once I click edit. I had to click edit to show the image in the first place. After that no matter where I click I can't get out of editing and I loose control box (to resize or move object).
Do you know how to do that?
In fact it's so sloppy that it's actually better to create images.

I'm using Word 2016 as well. I could succesfully make it work. See here:
Not sure I've understood you issue, but I could successfuly make it work by taking two actions:
1) Disable design mode by clicking this button (sorry for the Italian language):
2) Save the document as word with enabled macros (wordm)
If I needed to resize the activeX object I would click again on the design mode button.

Yep that is what I clicked also. It's totally broken. Once it works, another time it doesn't. If I keep playing with it the view also changes or the image is something else than the intended view.

if I understand correctly, you're trying to create a Word file that acts as a "static" manual with traditional pictures, which could be "activated" and then user would be able to interact with 3D model.
Does this correspond to your final goal ?

correct. It should be linked to composer file and if you change composer file so should be image in word. What would be nice also is to be able to activate composer element, select view from within word and once deactivated it should show image from that view.
I don't know capabilities of this, but I hope it's possible. Also whole composer file shouldn't be integrated into word, but just some link and image it draws from composer file, to save word file size.
Also there should be option to have transparent background, different borders...

Some years ago I submitted an idea for Simulation which then became load case manager. It was accepted and Hari Padmanabhan from simulation product definition involved me in a remote session showing me the concept and asking for me an opinion and suggestions (obviously I had to accept a non disclosure agreement).

I had no idea about that place. Besides I'd rather say it here because some ideas were already in consideration for newest SW version or were already integrated. (we are still on SW 2016).
